School Profile

M.Ct.M. Chidambaram Chettyar Matriculation School was started in June 1981, in memory of Late Shri M.Ct.M. Chidambaram Chettyar.

Smt. Sivagami Pethachi was the Founder Correspondent of the School. Her earnest wish was that the School should be a unique institution in the city of Chennai – a School with a difference. She was always keen that the children of the School should not only excel in the academic field but also imbibe India’s rich cultural heritage – besides acquiring proficiency in co-curricular activities, games and sports. Under her guidance the school made rapid progress over the years and was upgraded to a Higher Secondary School in 1989. Unfortunately, before her dream could fully materialize, she passed away in May 1990. The mantle of leadership was then taken up by Shri M.Ct.Pethachi, President & Correspondent, and Shri M.Ct.P. Chidambaram, Secretary.

The School had Junior Nursery, Senior Nursery and Classed I to XII. It functions as a full-fledged Co-educational Higher Secondary School. It is an ISO 9001:2015 certified school. The academic work is carried on by a team of devoted, qualified and experienced teachers, monitored by the Principal.

The School prepares the students of Std. X for the CBSE Examination and students of Std. XII for the Higher Secondary Examination, conducted by the Director of Government Examinations Tamilnadu.

The School is located in spacious grounds in the heart of Chennai, in Mylapore and has a good ambience. It has modern buildings with spacious and well-ventilated Classrooms, state-of-the-art Laboratories, Library, Audio Visual Hall, digital boards in all classrooms from VI to XII and X-seed programme for classes LKG to V and an Air-Conditioned Auditorium. The sports facilities include a Football/Hockey field, a Basketball court, Volleyball and Throwball courts, two Cricket nets, a 200m running track and an athletic field.

Emblem

The meaning of the school emblem, which is attractive in its details, has to be understood in order to appreciate, fully its significance. The Monogram at the crest represents artistically, the initial letters of the name of the institution. The chiming bell, which hangs from a pendant, is symbolic of the fact that sound is the source of all knowledge.

The Swans (Hansa Birds) on either side represent the power of discriminating good from evil, as the birds are able to sift milk from water.

The book underneath resting on a stand is meant to remind us that it is an important aid to learning and that the purposeful knowledge gained through its reverential study, is the goal of all educational endeavour.

At the bottom is a lamp with the engravement of the lotus with the auspicious “swastik” mark on it. The effulgent flame of the lamp represents the removal of the darkness of ignorance and the illumination of true knowledge.

It is hoped that the school emblem which will constantly attract the attention of our pupils will help them grow in knowledge, wisdom and sublime emotions which will bring them peace and prosperity.
